assorted bridgerton snippets
look, I'm as upset as you are that I'm currently hyperfixating on, of all things, netflix's bridgerton. but here we are. and, because of this hyperfixation, I've reignited my love for my favorite character in the show, edwina sharma. I just think she's neat!
anyway. I've been doing a lot of typing in my notes app this week about edwina, so here are some of those little snippets. I'm also hopefully gonna be writing a bigger fic about edwina and marina (ship name mawina. and no they have not interacted in canon) in a sci-fi setting but we'll see how far my ADHD can take me.
this first section was me getting a grasp on edwina's internal voice, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. enjoy!

Edwina Sharma was deeply happy for her sister. Kate was rarely selfish, or rather she was never selfish, but rarely did things that would only benefit her. Things like snoozing her alarm to sleep in later, or buying a nice new dress for an event, or pursuing any man she was interested in. Everything she did, she did with other people in mind. Particularly Edwina. Anthony Bridgerton was similar in this way with his siblings, and perhaps that’s why he and Kate were so drawn to each other in the first place.
Standing to the side at Kate’s wedding as her maid of honor, Edwina determined that love is an inherently selfish thing, which made her feel a bit sick. Though, the wide smile on her face did not falter. And, oddly, neither did her feelings of joy. Weddings had a way of swaying even the deepest of sorrows, at least to Edwina.
The couple kissed, and Edwina nearly jumped at the sudden eruption of cheers that came from the crowd of friends and family, particularly from Anthony’s side. Colin Bridgerton was yelling the loudest, and Edwina suspected that he and his sister Eloise had already gotten into the libations meant for the reception.
The Bridgerton family had been perfectly civil to Edwina when she and Anthony were dating. They were never unkind to her, but never overtly friendly. She’d always suspected Violet, Anthony’s mother, had not liked her, and knew for a fact that his sister Daphne didn’t, despite all of Anthony’s weak arguments to the contrary. The rest of the family seemed to at the very least tolerate her company, but Edwina was something close to friendly with Franscesca and the youngest of all of Violet’s eight children, Hyacinth.
Watching this family now, clapping and crying and celebrating Kate and Anthony’s true love felt good, but complicated. Edwina did not love Anthony anymore, at least not in the way she had for the duration of their romantic relationship, but something cracked in her chest seeing his family so excited for him to marry Kate.
It felt like the final piece of something clicking into place. Like completing the final chapter of a novel that had taken ages to read. Kate was always meant to be a Bridgerton, while Edwina was not. And that was okay, because it had to be.

this next one is shorter, but requires a content warning. it's very brief, but the death of a parent is mentioned, and the whole thing revolves around the denial state of grief lowkey. if you haven't seen bridgerton you'll be surprised to know this is kind of in line with the show. grief and love kinda go hand in hand.

Edwina chose her words like she was picking up pieces of glass from a shattered bottle, careful not to cut herself. She couldn’t bear to meet her sister’s eyes.
“I know she’s not dead.”
Kate looked at her with that sympathetic gaze that she only gave when she believed Edwina was being unreasonable. The emotion behind it was something like pity, and that made Edwina’s stomach turn.
“Edwina—"
“I know she’s not dead!” Edwina all but screamed. She was standing now, unsure of when she rose to her feet, though she could only assume it coincided with the loud clang of her fists shaking the table. She did her best not to cry as she continued, but her best was rarely good enough these days.
“I have felt people die, Kate. When our father died, I felt it. You felt it. That light leaving is impossible to miss. You may not feel it this time, but Marina’s light is still here, I know it.”
Kate opened her mouth to speak again, but Edwina cut her off, “I know it.”
Kate said nothing after that.

ending with a little francesca paragraph where I was experimenting with the sci-fi setting I wanna use for my big fic. love my autistic lesbian queen <3

The song Francesca was playing on the piano was already considered an “oldie” during your time, but now it was downright ancient. She hummed the melody softly, pale fingers dancing across the keys with the practice dexterity of someone who, if it was up to her, would do absolutely nothing except play this instrument.
